This Beautiful Lady Married A Disabled Man To Prove That True Love Exists
Sometimes I ask myself “if I had an accident that'll make me lose my legs or bedridden me, will anyone still love me enough to marry me in that condition?, will I still find true love on this earth while stuck in a wheelchair?
Shane Burcaw's inspiring story gave me hope on these questions, it has shown me that true acts of love will forever exist on earth when he tied the knot with his extremely good-looking sweetheart Hannah Aylward, 24.
The story of Shane and Hannah Burcaw did not only put misconception surrounding their relationship to rest, but it also showed that disability is not a barrier when two people make up their mind to be together no matter what it may look like in the eyes of everyone around them.
For Shane Burcaw, his disability is enough for him to disappear from the public eye let alone find a gorgeous girlfriend that went on to become his wife.
Shane is 27 years old and suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) which causes his muscles to worsen over time as he ages. He wasn't born like this, his ailment started at the age of 2.
Still, Hannah looked beyond his disability, get to know him, and went all the way to become his wife and caregiver.
How the couple met.
Shane Burcaw has a documentary about him where he talks about his life journey and Hannah Aylward is one of the people who watch the video clips on social media, Hannah felt remorseful for him and decided to reach out to him through an email.
In her email, Hannah told him that she admired his writing and sense of humor, but also ended it with “P.S: I Think you’re cute.” Over time, they communicated through video calls and got to know each other. Soon enough, they said “I love you” to each other and Shane moved in with Hannah. She then became his primary caretaker.
For Shane and his family, it was a dream come true, but the same can't be said of Hannah's family and friends. Some of Hannah's friends thought she has lost it when she made it open that she's now dating Shane who's paralyzed down to the limbs.
Who wouldn't? Looking at Hannah's pictures you'll automatically judge them to be relations or a nurse taking care of her patient, a patient she gets paid extremely well to care for.
According to Hannah, when their story first hit the Internet a lot of people accused her of being a gold-digger and labeled their love story as one being influenced by money.
Some put it clear that she's just the nurse and nothing more, but most people interested in their story followed them on Instagram to make sure what is really going on between them and to know when the two will break up from whatever they thought they were into.
Well, beautiful Hannah Aylward disappointed them all, their discrimination and misperception went flat when she started cooking his meals, bathe him, learned how to barb because of him, and does his garden.
Hannah made it known to the people criticizing Shane to look beyond his disability because her boyfriend Shane is the truest human being she has ever come in contact with.
Those digging into backgrounds wanted to know the real reason Hannah chose Shane despite her good looks and everything. But in the end, Shane was just an average American guy who found true love in the face of adversity.
Shane and Hannah's inspiring love story reminds me of my neighbors when I was living in eastern part of Nigeria a few years ago. A woman I regard as an aunt brought her siblings from her village to live with her in the city.
She struggled to provide for her younger sisters, she did all she could for all three of them until they all reached their twenties. Luckily, one of the younger sisters got a suitor who liked her and was willing to marry to marry her.
This suitor sells bags of onions which he buys from the northern region to resell in the east at that time. He was okay financially and could take care of this girl if the aunt agreed for him to marry her.
The aunt bluntly refused and told the younger sister that she'll never marry that guy no matter how much he tries to persuade her.
Her only reason for not consenting her younger sister marrying this suitor is because the suitor had an accident in one of his travels to the north and this accident affected one of his legs. The leg was badly injured to the extent it had to be amputated in order to save what's left of it.
Despite his accident and disability, he walks with a crutch that supports him to move around freely, but the aunt made it clear she won't have an amputee as an in-law, moreover that her sister is too young and pretty to settle for a man like that.
Honestly, we Africans need to start looking beyond physicality when trying to choose a partner because it's the reason most people end up in a toxic relationship. Hannah for example focused on what Shane has to offer as a partner than concentrating on what he looked like, she did not only email him the first time she noticed she felt something for him, but also called him cute and moved in with him.
On September 4th, 2020, Hannah took to her Instagram to reveal that she has said yes to the love of her life Shane.
She wrote “On Friday, September 4th, I married the love of my life; It wasn’t the big gathering we had always planned on having, but it was perfect. Thank you so much to @sburcaw for officiating over Zoom. We love you!
I may not have told their love story perfectly as I should, but the message I'm trying to get across is when you're looking for true love, try to look beyond what the normal eyes can see just like Hannah taught us with her selfless acts of true love towards disabled Shane Burcaw.
If your friend or family member finds herself in a similar situation as Hannah's, please do not discriminate or try to discourage her from marrying people like Shane, because they are humans too and they deserve to be loved just like everyone else.
